Joint Preservation Surgery

Joint preservation techniques are used in patients with cartilage defects to preserve the joints and to restore the function.

Articular cartilage is the cartilage that covers the bony surface of joints. It has a smooth surface which allows the bones of the knee joint to slide over each other with very little friction. Articular cartilage is often damaged by injury or normal wear and tear.

Pediatric Sports Medicine

The number of children participating in sports activities has been increasing over the recent years resulting in a substantial rise in the incidences of sports injuries. Even though there are several benefits of active participation in sports, including building up of self-confidence, physical fitness, and learning to work in a team, there is also a risk of sports-related injuries.

Dr. Laith Jazrawi assumes role as Surgical Director of the NYU Langone Outpatient Surgery Center

On Monday, January 14th, our department is opening the Essex Crossing ambulatory surgery center. Essex Crossing consists of four operating rooms. We are staffing two operating rooms immediately and will staff the remaining two on July 1st. In total, we will have four ambulatory OR’s at Essex Crossing and six at our 38th Street ASC location. This is in addition to the OR’s at the NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital, and those at Tisch/Kimmel. In order to accommodate this growth, we are expanding the roles of the physician leadership.

2nd Annual Fight Medicine CME Course - May 12th, 2018

NYU Langone Orthopedics Division of Sports Medicine hosted the second annual Fight Medicine Course on May 12th, 2018. This course, which focused on treatment of boxers and MMA fighters at the ringside and in the clinic, included lectures by experts on the subject including physicians, physical therapists, physical trainers, referees, and professional athletes.
