Team physicians who treat high-level athletes with fifth metatarsal fractures, ones that are in zone 2 at the proximal extent of the fifth metatarsal and known as Jones fractures, should focus on ways to avoid failed treatment if they decide to surgically fix the fracture, a presenter at the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine Annual Meeting, said here.

Hamstring injuries in baseball may be preventable
In those individuals who followed the injury prevention program there was a 40% reduction in hamstring injuries. In addition there was a significant reduction in playing time lost due to injury in both groups who participated in the program. For the Major League players there were 9 vs. 25.9 days lost, or a 65% reduction.
