Elbow injuries among baseball pitchers are on the rise—and so is a surgical procedure that can save their careers.
“The most common injury is a partial tear—rarely a full one,” Jazrawi says. For athletes with a partial tear, Jazrawi recommends rest and rehab. That allows the UCL to heal and strengthen—without surgery. But Rob’s injury was so severe that he needed a procedure called Tommy John surgery—or he would never pitch again.
