Saturday, January 3, 2015 – The concern of U2 frontman Bono that he might never play guitar again is similar to the concerns of many patients who've undergone significant traumatic injury — but for anyone six weeks out from an accident, it's still too early to tell.
The X-ray he posted online shows a distal humerus fracture in his left elbow fixed with titanium plates. He also said he broke his hand and shoulder. For someone with these injuries, getting full range of motion in the elbow will be the main issue.
Assuming everything is healing without infection, intensive physical therapy likely will focus on range of motion. Typically the recovery period here is six months at least. If a patient fails to regain full motion, there might be follow-up surgeries that can release scar tissue — and other surgeries if the bones don't heal properly.
